My name is Callie Smith, and I was raised in Omaha, Nebraska. After graduating college in 2022, I had a series of health issues that lead me down the path to having a more holistic lifestyle. I have always been a candle lover, but they always seemed to give me headaches and make me feel lightheaded. I began to notice that it was almost impossible to find candles with clean ingredients at commercial stores. In the midst of this journey, I decided to start making soy wax candles with a clean premium fragrance oil to gift to my friends and family members during the holidays in 2023. I loved seeing the peace and joy natural candles had brought my family in that time; I hope it does the same for you!
in 2024, God had given me a vision of restoring families and breaking the stigma on mental health. This calling has led me to pursue a career in Crisis counseling at the 988 suicide & crisis line Through Boys Town. After I quit my sales job and started at Boys Town, my depression and anxiety began to heal; it was a miracle! I am looking forward to getting my master's in social work to continue my knowledge in the field while maintaining a candle business. I feel extremely blessed to have gone through challenging trials for the past couple of years because it has given me strength, perseverance and more appreciation for where I am today. Proverbs 3:5-8 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Is easily my favorite Bible verse because it reminds me that no matter what I go through, that God's plan is greater than mine.
In 2016, I had lost a classmate to suicide. Walking into school the following day was painful because there was a void of someone who always knew how to light up a room with his Humor. When he passed, my classmates and I carried so much shame because we had no idea how much he was struggling. It had woken us up to the fact we only see the tip of the iceberg and that below there are so many layers to the human experience that we don't see. Despite this great loss, we were able to establish a stronger community that began to break the stigmas on mental health. We learned that although we cannot go back in time to save him, we can create change by being a kind human, having the education on seeing risk factors, and knowing about free mental health resources.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please call 988 the suicide & crisis line to speak with a counselor for free.
